Glen Echo Carnival Wedding: Congratulations Kat & Dan!

Kat and Dan had a whimsical carnival wedding at Glen Echo Park in Maryland.

Although the wedding took place at an amusement park, the style had a bit of an edge. The boutonnieres were actually made from bullet casings!

Kat shared with me, “I think that my wedding style was kind of uniquely my own. I told people in my planning process that I relate more to Offbeat Bride than I do to The Knot. All the pictures that I’ve ever seen of Glen Echo Park weddings seem to make them more carnival like with blues and reds, but again I had to be different so the more muted colors of Glen Echo became the wedding colors. Style wise things were so much better than I could have ever imagined thanks to my wedding coordination and design team at Candy&Co.”

The ceremony was held in the bumper car pavilion against a custom-made paper backdrop.

Kat said, “I didn’t think I would cry at all during the ceremony and I was doing fairly well until my maid of honor did her reading from The Velveteen Rabbit.”

“What is REAL?” asked the Velveteen Rabbit one day… “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When someone loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept.”

“Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand… once you are Real you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always.”

After the ceremony everyone went for a ride on the carousel.

The historic Glen Echo Park Dentzel Carousel, installed at the park in 1921, is a local treasure of the Washington, D.C. area.

Kat and Dan met while working together at CVS and were engaged in Disney World.

Getting married at an amusement park, Kat and Dan made sure to have fun at their wedding with a running carousel, a photo booth and some offbeat music.

Congratulations Kat & Dan!
